2010 Salisbury University fall athletic schedules announced
SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury University Athletics Department has officially released the 2010 schedules for its seven fall varsity teams: men's and women's cross country, field hockey, football, men's and women's soccer and volleyball.
The Sea Gull athletic teams have filled their schedules with some of the most demanding and competitive schedules in the nation against nationally ranked opponents, Capital Athletic Conference contests, Atlantic Central Football Conference games and many regional non-conference rivalry games.
The Gulls have three teams ready to defend their conference championships from last year while four others set out to return the conference championship trophies to SU.
Here are the schedule highlights for each sport:
Cross Country
2009 Post Season: CAC women’s champions and
20th at NCAA Mideast Regional; CAC men’s runners-up and 11th
at NCAA Mideast Regional
Can’t Miss Home Meet: Salisbury hosts the
CAC championships (Nov. 6, 11 a.m.)
Overview: The Salisbury University men’s and
women’s cross country teams will open up their season at home
(Winter Place Park) with the Sea Gull Opener the first weekend in
September. SU will then hit the road on Sept. 18 for the University
of Massachusetts-Dartmouth Invitational before returning home to
host the annual Don Cathcart Invitational on Oct. 2. The Gulls will
also compete in the Gettysburg Invitational (Oct. 16) and the
Battle for the Buggy Invitational (Oct. 23). Salisbury will close
out its home schedule with the CAC championships on Nov. 6, before
the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional championships on Nov.
13.

Field Hockey
2009 Record: 20-1, 6-0 CAC
Post Season: National Champions, CAC Champions
Can’t Miss Home Game: Salisbury vs. TCNJ
(Oct. 16, 6 p.m.)
Overview: The defending national champions will
open up their season at home with a CAC contest against Mary
Washington on Sept. 4. The Gulls will square off at home with
Christopher Newport before playing host to the annual SU
Invitational (Sept. 11-12). SU will then hit the road for its
next two contests against Johns Hopkins and 2009 NCAA finalist
Messiah College. The Sea Gulls will then play a slew of CAC
competitors in Stevenson, St. Mary’s (Md.), Wesley and York
(Pa.). Salisbury will play Rowan and Hood before playing TCNJ
before closing out its regular season with contests against
Lynchburg, Frostburg State and Catholic.

Football
2009 Record: 5-6
Post Season: ECAC Southwest Bowl Appearance
Can’t Miss Home Game: Salisbury vs. Wesley (Oct. 30,
1 p.m.)
Overview: The Sea Gulls open up the 2010 campaign with a
pair of home games against N.C. Wesleyan and Christopher Newport.
SU will then hit the road and travel to Bangor, Maine for a game
against Husson. The Gulls will close out the month of September
with a home game against Hampden-Sydney. SU will open the October
portion of its schedule against The Apprentice School before the
homecoming game against Huntingdon. The Gulls will make the trek to
New York with a game at Union, before the much anticipated final
home game of the season against Wesley. Salisbury will close out
the regular season with the Regents Cup contest and
Salisbury’s final ACFC contest with Frostburg State.

Men’s Soccer
2009 Record: 15-3-2, 7-0-1 CAC
Post Season: Advanced to NCAA Second Round, Advanced to
CAC Semifinals
Can’t Miss Home Game: Salisbury vs. York (Pa.)
College (Oct. 23, 2 p.m.)
Overview: The Sea Gulls will open up the season with a
four-game home stand, including the annual Elmer Lord Soccer
Classic (Sept. 4-5). The following weekend SU will compete in the
St. Mary’s College Classic (Sept. 11-12). SU will then open
up conference play at Hood before a pair of home contests against
Lynchburg and Marymount (Va.). Salisbury will close out the month
of September at Frostburg State and Johns Hopkins. The Sea Gulls
will start off October at home against St. Mary’s (Md.),
before road contests at Stevenson, N.C. Wesleyan and Wesley. SU
will close out the home portion of their schedule with contests
against Mary Washington and York (Pa.), before the final regular
season contest against Christopher Newport.

Volleyball
2009 Record: 32-5, 8-0 CAC
Post Season: CAC Champions, Advanced to NCAA
Regionals
Can’t Miss Home Game: Salisbury vs. Central College,
SU Tournament (Oct. 16, 2 p.m.)
Overview: The Salisbury University volleyball team saw
great success against the competition last season, going on a 13
match win streak before falling to Christopher Newport in the NCAA
regional. The Sea Gulls will have their chance at redemption on
Oct. 8-9 as they travel to Newport News, Va., to compete in the
Christopher Newport Invitational. Before that, though, Salisbury
will hit the road for two weeks, playing in the Gettysburg
Tournament and Dickinson College Tournament. Sept. 14 marks the
beginning of CAC action for the maroon and gold as they square off
against St. Mary’s (Md.) College; three days later, on Sept.
17, Salisbury will play in its first home contest as it hosts the
SU Invitational. The Sea Gulls return to conference action on Sept.
25 with a contest at Frostburg State to begin a string of four CAC
games, two of which will be at home (Marymount on Sept. 30, Wesley
on Oct. 5).

Women’s Soccer
2009 Record: 10-3-3, 7-1 CAC
Post Season: Advanced to CAC Semifinals
Can’t Miss Home Game: Salisbury vs. Johns Hopkins
(Sept. 5, 2 p.m.)
Overview: The Salisbury University women’s soccer
team kicks off the 2010 campaign with a home contest against
Rutgers-Camden on Sept. 1 before playing host to Fredonia State and
Johns Hopkins in the SU Tournament. The Gulls will then hit the
road for their next seven contests, including the Lynchburg
Tournament (Sept. 11-12). SU will open up the month of October at
home against Mary Washington before a trip to Richard Stockton.
Salisbury then returns home for matches against Stevenson and
Wesley before games at Hood and Rowan. The Sea Gulls close out the
home portion of their schedule against Frostburg State before their
final regular season contest at Eastern.
