2010 SALISBURY UNIVERSITY SPRING ATHLETIC SCHEDULES ANNOUNCED

SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury University Athletics Department officially released the 2010 spring schedules for its eight varsity teams: baseball, softball, men's and women's lacrosse, men's and women's tennis and men's and women's track and field.

The Sea Gull athletic teams have filled their schedules with some of the most demanding and competitive schedules in the nation against nationally-ranked opponents, Capital Athletic Conference contests and many regional non-conference rivalry games.

The Gulls have five teams set to defend conference championships from a year ago while three others are set to return the conference championship trophies to SU.

Here are the schedule highlights for each sport:

Baseball

2009 Record: 38-8, 15-3 CAC
Postseason: NCAA Division III South Region Finalists, CAC Champions
Can't Miss Home Game: vs. Ithaca (March 28, 12 p.m.)

Overview: The four-time defending CAC champions open up their season on the road at the Apprentice School (February 14) followed by another road game at Virginia Wesleyan College. Salisbury returns for a five-game home stand highlighted by a doubleheader with Stevens Institute of Technology. The month of March is kicked off with a home game against Washington (Md.) College, and games against Mary Washington, Christopher Newport, Gallaudet and Albertus Magnus before the annual Florida trip. The Gulls will play four games in three days, before returning for an away game at Stevenson, before another five-game home stand with the game against Ithaca coming on March 28. SU starts off the April portion of the schedule with a doubleheader at Wesley, before the start of the season series with York (Pa.) College. The CAC tournament runs from April 13-18; following that the maroon and gold close out the schedule with games against Christopher Newport, North Carolina Wesleyan, Frostburg State, Johns Hopkins and Montclair State. The NCAA tournament begins on May 19.

Softball
2009 Record:
40-7, 12-0 CAC
Postseason:
NCAA Championship Appearance, CAC Champions
Can't Miss Home Game:
vs. Christopher Newport (February 27, 1 & 3 p.m.)
Overview:
The Salisbury University softball team will open up the season with a pair of home doubleheaders against Virginia Wesleyan and Christopher Newport before playing in the Virginia Wesleyan Tournament (March 5-6). SU will square off with Lynchburg College in Great Bridge, Va., before hosting the annual Sea Gull Invitational (March 12-13) and Sea Gull Classic (March 19-20) that feature very competitive fields. Following a non-conference game at Washington (Md.) College, the Sea Gulls will open up conference play at home against Wesley and Stevenson before traveling to Hood College. SU will close out the March portion of the schedule with a non-conference doubleheader against Catholic, before starting the month of April off with York (Pa.) College. SU will close out the CAC regular season on the road at Gallaudet and Mary Washington before the start of the CAC tournament (April 13-18). The maroon and gold will close out the regular season with a doubleheader against Gettysburg College, before the start of the NCAA tournament on May 13th.

Men's Lacrosse
2009 Record:
16-4, 5-2 CAC
Postseason:
NCAA Quarterfinalists, CAC Champions
Can't Miss Home Game:
vs. Lynchburg (February 20, 1 p.m.)
Overview:
The Salisbury University men's lacrosse team will kick-off their season on the road as they travel to North Carolina for a contest again Greensboro College. The following weekend, SU will host No. 15 Lynchburg before an away game at Widener University to close out the February schedule. SU opens up March with a home game against McDaniel, before a midweek neutral site game against No. 1 SUNY Cortland at the Haverford, Pa. The maroon and gold will then host four straight at Sea Gull Stadium, before a much anticipated road contest against No. 3 Gettysburg College that is the start of a three-game road trip. The trip is rounded out with a contest against No. 2 Stevenson University in Owings Mills, Md. SU will return for three conference home games, before traveling to Marymount (Va.) University for the final conference regular season contest prior to the start of the CAC tournament that runs from April 18-24. SU will square off with Washington (Md.) College in the "War on the Shore" game, before the start of the NCAA tournament on May 12th.

Women's Lacrosse
2009 Record:
20-2, 7-0 CAC

Can't Miss Home Game:
vs. Franklin & Marshall (March 20, 1 p.m.)
Overview:
The Salisbury University women's lacrosse team open's up play on the road at Christopher Newport University on March 20 to kick off its 2010 campaign. The Sea Gulls will then host a pair of games against Hood College and Washington & Lee before hitting the road for a pair of road games before a much-anticipated home game against Catholic University. The Gulls will then travel to York (Pa.) College, before a three-game home stand including a game against No. 1 Franklin & Marshall, who defeated SU in the national championship game in overtime last season. The maroon and gold will travel to St. Mary's (Md.) College, before closing out their home regular season schedule against Wesley College. Following that game SU will finish the season on the road for the final four contests of the season, including a contest against regional rival TCNJ (April 10). The Gulls will aim to win an eighth straight CAC championship as the conference tournament is held from April 18-23. NCAA tournament play will start on May 12 with the start of the first round.

Men's Tennis
2009 Record:

Can't Miss Home Game:
Washington & Lee (March 6, 11 a.m.
Overview:
The Salisbury University men's tennis team will open up the season with the annual Sea Gull open from February 12-14, before hosting the Sea Gull Invite the next weekend. SU will then host a trio of non-conference matches against North Carolina Wesleyan, Washington & Lee and Swarthmore in successive days. The Gulls will then open up conference play against York (Pa.) College, before heading to California to play several nationally-ranked programs. SU will head back east and square off against Virginia Wesleyan College on the road, before playing five matches in two days all at the SU Tennis Complex. The Gulls will close out the regular season on the road with five matches, including a potential CAC regular-season championship on the line against University of Mary Washington (April 7) before the start of the CAC tournament on April 18.

Women's Tennis
2009 Record: 14-5, 5-1 CAC
Can't Miss Home Game: vs. Swarthmore (March 11, 3:30 p.m.)
Overview: The Sea Gulls will open up the season with the annual Sea Gull Open from February 12-14. SU will then open up its March campaign and conference play with a match at York (Pa.) College. The Gulls will then host Swarthmore in their only home non-conference contest, before making the trek to California for four matches from March 15-18, squaring off with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, Colorado College, La Verne University and California Lutheran. SU will play at Virginia Wesleyan College following the trip to California, before hosting three CAC contests against St. Mary's (Md.) College, Hood College and Stevenson University. The Gulls will hit the road for the final four regular season contests of the season, including the highly anticipated match against the Eagles of University of Mary Washington on April 7. CAC Tournament play opens on April 17 as the Gulls look to compete for their third CAC championship.

Men's and Women's Track & Field
Postseason: Men - NCAA 4th place, CAC Champions; Women - CAC runner-up
Can't Miss Home Meet:
CAC Track & Field Championships (April 17, 10 a.m.)
Overview: 
The Salisbury University track & field teams will begin the outdoor season on March 6 with the annual Salisbury University Spring Classic. SU will then hit the road for the final two competitions in March, as the head to the Wake Forest Invitational (March 19-20) and the Maryland Terrapin Invitational (March 27). The Sea Gulls will start the month of April at the Penn Invitational (April 3) before traveling to the West Chester Invitational (April 9-10). SU will then play host to the CAC Championships on April 17, before traveling to the 116th annual Penn Relays (April 22-24). The following weekend the Gulls will host the Mason-Dixon Championships, before hitting the road for the final two meets at Christopher Newport University (May 8) and the Swarthmore University Last Chance Meet (May 10). SU will then hope to send individuals or teams to the national championship in Berea, Ohio from May 20-22.
