Salisbury ranked No. 8 in Directors' Cup Standings

DALLAS - After a highly successful fall season, the Salisbury University athletics program was recognized by the National Association of College Directors of Athletics (NACDA) as one of the best programs in the country.

Salisbury was ranked No. 8 in the 2009-10 Learfield Sports Directors' Cup Division III Final Fall Standings, a list which is comprised of the top 177 Division III teams in the nation. SU is in familiar territory, as the Sea Gulls were ranked No. 6 in the Directors' Cup standings at the conclusion of the 2004-05 fall season.

Three of Salisbury's teams advanced to the NCAA tournament in the fall: men's soccer, volleyball and field hockey. The field hockey team took home the Division III national title, its fifth in program history, by defeating Messiah College 1-0 on Nov. 22.

The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 18 sports -- nine women's and nine men's.
