Salisbury University claims eighth CAC All-Sports Award with seven conference championships
YORK, Pa. – The Salisbury University athletics program captured seven Capital Athletic Conference championships during the 2009-10 academic year. That great success led to the program earning the Richard C. Cook All-Sports Award for the fifth-straight year and eighth time overall (Salisbury has been a member of the CAC for 16 of the 19 years the All-Sports Award has been given).
The Sea Gulls claimed CAC titles in women's cross country, field hockey and volleyball in the fall. Salisbury then added titles in women's track & field, women's lacrosse, softball and men's track & field in the spring to help earn 172 total points, just three and a half points ahead of second-place finisher University of Mary Washington.
Salisbury collected 98.5 points on the women's side, which earned the Sea Gulls the Women's Commissioner's Award. It marks the third time in the three years that the Commissioner's Awards have been given out for men's and women's performance that Salisbury has earned the title on the women's side. With 73.5 points, Salisbury finished second in the race for the Men's Commissioner's Award, just two and a half points behind York (Pa.) College.
While Salisbury earned the All-Sports Award for the fifth-straight year, the CAC is beginning to see some movement in the points within the award. The 2009-10 season is the first in the conference's history that saw seven different programs win a conference championship.
Salisbury is one of two teams to have won the All-Sports Award in the history of the CAC as Mary Washington has claimed the title a record 11 times (1992-98, 2002-05).

POINT SYSTEM
The point system awards nine "base" points for the top team in the
regular season, eight points for second place, seven points for
third place, etc., down to one point for the last-place team. Teams
can also score an additional point (maximum three points) for
success in the CAC championship tournament.
In sports that have team titles decided only by post-season championship events, points are awarded based on the standings, similar to the sports with regular seasons and playoffs (nine points for first place, eight for second, etc.). Playoff points are awarded to the top four teams (three for first place, two for second place, one for third and fourth place), similar to the sports with regular seasons and playoffs based on the top seeds advancing through the tournament.
In all 19 sports, the top team can gain a maximum of 12 points, and the last-place team earns one point.
