Salisbury University Athletics promotes Take A Kid to the Game on February 7

SALISBURY, Md. - Salisbury University, in conjunction with Somerset, Wicomico, and Worcester County elementary and middle schools, is pleased to announce its "Take A Kid to the Game" promotion. The event will be held on Saturday, February 7, at 2 p.m. at the Maggs Physical Activities Center on the campus of SU as part of a men's and women's basketball doubleheader against local rival Wesley College. This nationally-recognized event encourages adults to take children to collegiate athletic contests and stresses the importance of spending time together. In addition, SU is helping to promote literacy in the local schools through this event with a book drive and essay contest.

Admission
Any adult that brings a child, under the age 14, to the game will receive free admission. There is no limit on the number of children. All SU students, faculty, staff get in free with a valid Salisbury University ID. General Admission is $5 and those that are Non-Salisbury students and SU Alumni get in for $3. 

Book Drive
Children are encouraged to bring books to the basketball doubleheader that they wish to donate. For every book that is donated the child will receive a ticket that they can enter for prizes that will be given away during the women's and men's halftimes. Children can donate as many books as they wish to increase their chances of winning but they can only win one prize.

Free Bobbleheads
The first 25 girls and 25 boys to enter the game on February 7th will receive an official SU Sammy the Sea Gull bobblehead. The doors open at 1 p.m.

Autograph Signing
The Salisbury men's and women's basketball teams will sign autographs for children during the day on February 7th. The SU men's team will sign from 2 p.m. until halftime of the women's game while the women's team will sign during the first half of the men's game, slated to begin at 4 p.m.

Essay Contest
Children attending the event will be encouraged to partake in an essay contest entitled "What the Take a Kid to the Game day meant to me." The 250-word essays will be due March 6. One girl's essay and one boy's essay will be selected as the winners. The winning school where the essay writer hails from will get a special visit from the SU men's or women's basketball team to conduct a special Reading Day and basketball clinic.

Entering its 14th year, the Take A Kid to the Game (TAKG) program provides NCAA member institutions a national grassroots program that is easily implemented at NCAA football and men's and women's basketball games. The TAKG program allows institutions an opportunity to introduce area youth to its athletics programs as well as the college or university while also boosting attendance.
