SU's National Student-Athlete Day a great success
SALISBURY, Md. - It was a picture perfect spring day at Sea Gull Stadium as over 125 Salisbury University student-athletes, coaches and athletic trainers gathered in their maroon and gold apparel to partake in the SU Athletics Department tribute event as part of National Student-Athlete Day.
There was a group photo taken of SU's student-athletes, coaches and athletic trainers as WBOC's helicopter flew over to get video footage for Friday's newscasts on channel 16. SU President Dr. Janet Dudley-Eshbach and SU Director of Athletics and Recreation Dr. Michael Vienna addressed the group assembled afterwards to thank them for their hard work in the classroom and their contributions to SU athletics. The group then enjoyed lunch together.
"The event was a great success. It was a great day for the SU
Athletic Department to take time to celebrate all of our
student-athletes, coaches and teams successes on and off the
field," said SU Associate Athletic Director Matt
McGinnis. "We hope to continue events like this in the
future. We always want to show our appreciation to our
student-athletes, coaches and athletic trainers for their hard work
and dedication to Sea Gull Athletics and to Salisbury University."
National Student-Athlete Day has been celebrated annually in April since 1987 as it is America's day to celebrate outstanding student-athletes who have achieved excellence in academics and athletics while having made significant contributions to the community. It is also a time to recognize those parents, teachers, coaches and school systems which make it possible for young people to find the balance between academics and athletics.
