Salisbury University Athletics gears up for busy weekend

SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury University athletics department is gearing up for a big weekend where six of the seven fall sports will host a home game/meet this weekend. To prepare you for the weekend schedule checkout the team-by-team previews below. We hope to see you at one or more of the events this weekend!

Of course, due to the expected rain this weekend please log onto www.suseagulls.com to verify game times and locations. If you can't make it out to a Sea Gull event check the Web site for complete recaps and stats from the games.

SU teams at home, listed in order of game times:

VOLLEYBALL
Dates: Friday - September 26, 4 p.m. & Saturday - September 27, 10 a.m.
Location: Maggs Center
The Sea Gulls are looking to defend their Salisbury Invitational title this upcoming weekend at the Maggs Center. The Sea Gulls (16-1, 3-0 CAC) will entertain Catholic University, Gettysburg College, SUNY-New Paltz and Susquehanna University. SU will kick the tournament off with a match against Susquehanna at 4 p.m. With a win against Susquehanna, Salisbury will set the school record for the best start in the history of the program. The maroon and gold will jump right back into action hours later with an 8 p.m. bout against the Bullets of Gettysburg College. On Saturday, SU will participate in a doubleheader, first facing Catholic at Noon and then SUNY New Paltz at 2 p.m.

CROSS COUNTRY 
Date: Saturday - September 27, 10 a.m.

The Salisbury University men's and women's cross country teams welcome two excellent fields for this Saturday's Don Cathcart Invitational at Winter Place Park in Salisbury, Md. This will be the largest invitational that Salisbury has hosted in Coach Jim Jones' 10-year tenure. There are 18 women's squads and 16 men's teams that are expected to attend. The field consists of six Capital Athletic Conference schools and many Division II teams. The men's 8K race is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. and will be followed immediately by the women's 6K race at 10:50 a.m. The award ceremony is set to begin at Noon. Last season, the Sea Gull men finished fourth and the women finished third.

WOMEN'S SOCCER
Date: Saturday - September 27, 12:30 p.m.
Location: SU Soccer Complex
The Salisbury women's soccer team is looking to get some revenge this weekend as they host last year's Capital Athletic Conference champion, York (Pa.) College at the SU Soccer Complex at 12:30 p.m. Last season, York ended Salisbury's quest at two consecutive CAC titles with a 2-0 victory in the title game in Salisbury, Md. The Sea Gulls (3-2-3) are looking to pick up their second conference win of the season while York (4-2-1) is making its first trip back to Salisbury since last year's upset.

FIELD HOCKEY
Date: Saturday - September 27, 1 p.m.
Location: Sea Gull Stadium
The No. 9 Salisbury University field hockey matches up against York (Pa.) College on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. in Sea Gull Stadium. The Sea Gulls (6-2) have defeated York (5-4) each of the past four seasons while outscoring the Spartans, 18-4. Last season, SU tallied the first six goals of the contest en route to a 6-1 victory. The maroon and gold are coming off an excellent 2-0 victory against No. 7 Rowan University on Wednesday night. Salisbury is being led by junior All-American Lauren Correll and sophomore midfielder and reigning CAC Rookie of the Year Kandice Hancock.

MEN'S SOCCER
Date: Saturday - September 27, 2:30 p.m.
Location: SU Soccer Complex
In a rematch of last season's Capital Athletic Conference championship game, No. 17 Salisbury hosts No. 3 York (Pa.) College at the SU Soccer Complex at 2:30 p.m. The Sea Gulls beat the Spartans twice last season and held them scoreless in both games. SU's win at York snapped the 49-game unbeaten streak the Spartans held. Salisbury enters Saturday's game with a 17-game unbeaten streak. SU (8-0-1) has been fantastic at home this season as the Gulls are 5-0 and have outscored the opposition 16-2. York (8-0-0) has outscored its opponents 18-1 this season and has not given up a goal since August 30.

ON THE ROAD

FOOTBALL
Date: Saturday - September 27, 1 p.m.
Location: Doylestown, Pa. (Delaware Valley College)
The No. 6 Salisbury University football team will travel to Doylestown, Pa., to face Delaware Valley College in an important non-conference game. Salisbury (3-0) has outscored its opponents 116-55 so far this season. Delaware Valley (1-1) received 11 votes in this week's American Football Coaches' Association coaches' poll and defeated then ranked No. 3 Wesley College, 25-22, during the first week of the season. SU defeated the Aggies 36-16 last season in Salisbury, Md.
