Sea Gull Stadium is home to the SU field hockey, football, men's
lacrosse and women's lacrosse teams. The stadium received a new
playing surface in the summer of 2007 when A-Turf replaced the old
grass field. Along with a new field the stadium received lights
which were installed in the fall.
The first game on the new field happened on September 1, 2007,
when the SU football team hosted Albright College. The Sea Gulls
won 42-12. The following day the SU field hockey program made its
official debut in the stadium with a 5-1 victory over Capital
Athletic Conference foe St. Mary's (Md.) College. The first night
game happened on October 9, 2007 as the field hockey team defeated
Hood, 11-0.
The new playing surface allows the men's and women's soccer
programs to play game their games in the stadium when there are
poor playing conditions over at the SU Soccer Complex. In 2007,
both soccer teams hosted CAC tournament games on the weekend of
October 27-28.
In the spring of 2008, the women's lacrosse team will call the
stadium their new home. The women's lacrosse team used to play at
the SU Soccer Complex.
The stadium opened in 1980 and has a seating capacity for 2,500
spectators.
Over the years the stadium has hosted countless CAC championship
games and NCAA men's lacrosse games including the 1991 NCAA
Division III National Championship Game. The stadium has hosted
three postseason football games, including the 1995 and 2005 ECAC
Bowl Championship games.
